The new Software as a Living is coming soon

blog-3After several weeks of reading tons of blogs about search engine optimization, long tail keywords, page ranks and related topics I came to the realization that I’m not using any of those techniques for this site and could be missing out on some benefits because of that. Although initially my focus was for this blog to be about software development, my fundamental interest is in passive income generation, so I’ve decided to “rebrand” this blog into one more focused on passive income.

While searching for interesting long tail keywords I found several in the “passive income” area, so I decided to change the concept a bit, and I already have a keyword I’m going to use for this. So this will officially be the last real post as “Software as a Living”! It will probably take me a couple of weeks to get everything setup, but the next time your RSS reader notifies you of a new post it will contain a link to the new site.

Benefits

By selecting a more searched-for keyword I have the possibility to increase the blog’s traffic. Almost 60% of the current traffic is direct traffic, meaning people that type the address directly into their browser (or via a bookmark), while only 8% is from search. That means that there are few new readers.

Also it seems to me that the Android/iOS/web developer niche is not one looking to buy tools, books, or similar items, while the general public looking to make some passive income is. I believe that by making a small shift in the focus I can make money with affiliate links for popular tools and services, while still serving my current readers (you!) by reporting on my income from app sales (way overdue, sorry) and describing my technical and marketing struggles and wins.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
